The enigmatic, genre-merging Andrew Bayer has announced his biggest tour yet in a DJ career that has been built on exclusive and elusive performances – most notably at New York’s Madison Square Garden last October.
Comprising 11 exclusive headline shows across the USA and Canada, the Do Androids Dream Part 2 tour will be Andrew’s only North America club dates in the first half of 2015 – and will coincide one of his most sonically ambitious studio projects to date.
Scheduled for release on April 2, the accompanying 5-track Do Androids Dream’ mini-album comprises 26 minutes of cutting-edge electronic music that blurs the boundaries between the human and digital worlds. Covering deep, classic progressive textures, big room melodics and downtempo electronica, the mini-album also features two very distinct and unique tracks alongside Danish singer-songwriter Asbjørn. A huge standout anthem from that aforementioned Madison Square Garden set, the lead single “Super Human” (feat. Asbjørn) is available to preview HERE.
“The Do Androids Dream project is about joining the dots between the different musical landscapes that I have moved in over the past 5 years or so, but also about putting my club sound at the heart of the experience,” explains Bayer. “Do Androids Dream Part 1 and Part 2 are very epic and unravel over several minutes… They’re essentially clubby progressive tracks. The lead track Super Human with Asbjørn has an indie-sensibility at its heart, but is actually a real peak time anthem in my sets, before Tomorrow Boys explores the glitchy electronica of ‘If It Were You, We’d Never Leave,’ but blended with the song writing skills of Asbjorn.”

Line-Up For BESTIVAL Toronto Announced w. Florence + The Machine, Nas and more June 12 & 13, 2015

•March 2, 2015 • Leave a Comment

Bestival is coming with the inaugural line-up for our Canadian venture. Featuring Bestival friends old and new and a healthy dose of kick-ass acts from the U.K., Canada and worldwide, nurturing the freshest, new, local talent, and showcasing some world famous showstoppers, it’s a statement of intent; and that intent is to party all weekend long! So much more than just a music festival, Bestival will be a creative wonderland set upon the iconic and picturesque Hanlan’s Point Beach, Toronto Island on June 12 and 13. Bestival Toronto is a partnership between Bestival, Canadian promoters Embrace and SFX Entertainment.

Bestival curator Rob da Bank says: “To say that we’re excited at Bestival HQ about launching our very first Bestival outside of the U.K. is a serious understatement. We’ve spent 12 years working up to this moment and are so proud to be teaming up with Toronto to launch the good ship that is Bestival overseas. I’m also very proud of our first heavy hitting line-up with typically diverse headliners, Florence and The Machine and Nas! Two amazing talents. We are also announcing; the best leftfield acts around with Caribou and Omar Souleyman, electronic music from Jamie xx and Flosstradamus. I really hope you can join us on the ferry to Toronto Island in June. See you on the beach!”

Championed from the very start by Rob da Bank, the artist known as Florence Welch started her Bestival journey in a tent in front of a few hundred people in 2008, graduating all the way up to her mind-blowing UK headliner set in 2012. Now famous globally, and ever the showstopper, we are delighted that Florence + The Machine will be one of the very first headliners for Bestival Toronto. They’ll be playing songs from their much awaited new album How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful (due out in June) along with the classics that we all know and love. What could be better?

Renowned for our eclecticism, hip-hop has always played a big part in the Bestival vibe, so it’s an utter joy to announce a headline slot from the incomparable Nas. With a treasure trove of platinum greats to call on, Nas just happens to be behindIllmatic, one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time.  With six #1 albums on the Billboard charts, Nas is the real deal and we’re super excited about him topping our bill.

Bestival is at the forefront of championing global music and we will be showcasing outstanding sets from acts as diverse as U.K.-based Ontarian Caribou, Australian wunderkind Flume, Syrian superstar Omar Souleyman, Chicago EDM explorers Flosstradamus, and an all firing DJ set from Bestival favorite SBTRKT (DJ).

Electronic music has always reigned for us, with an array of concept stages and mega soundsystems at the heart of our parties. For this soundclash spectacular, expect an outstanding deep house set from Grammy nominated Robin Schulz, late night head-nodding from Zhu, sizzling sounds from Hot Natured’s Jamie Jones, wonky love from Jamie xx, and classically charged beats from da Bank-backed, Grammy Award-winners Clean Bandit.

Plus we’ll have music from a spectrum of incredible acts across multiple stages from Rudimental (DJ), Owen Pallett, Keys N Krates, Born Ruffians, Bakermat, Cashmere Cat, Grandtheft, Justin Martin, Dusky, Skream, Robert Delong, DJ Tennis, Cassy, Shamir, Lane 8, Nathan Barato, Matoma, Museum of Love, Hunter Siegel, Shaun Frank, Kill Them With Colours, Humans, Tops, Whilk & Misky, Tei Shi, River Tiber, Harrison and Coleman Hell.

Bestival really is more than a music show, it’s an undisputed leader when it comes to off-the-wall production, and our Hanlan’s Point Beach trip will be no exception. Famed for its mesmerising sunsets and striking beauty, our newest home exudes natural beauty, and with a healthy injection of Bestival creative experiences, we’re going to take it to another level.

With arenas such as The Bollywood Temple, celebrating our life-long love affair with the golden age of India, The Bestival Inflatable Church where you can get hitched, or the Yarn Bombing Tent where you get to hang out with Toronto’s coolest crafters; expect a myriad of creative experiences to blow your mind.

For all you fashionistas and style gurus out there, prepare to indulge in our Costume Party & ParadeSaturday is the day for getting dressed up and glitter and sequins are positively encouraged at all times.  There is no theme, and there are no rules, just step inside The Dressing Up Box, our emporium of what we like to call fancy dress, and express yourself.

Bestival prides itself on bringing the pizazz to the party, even the bars and food stalls have bags of personality, from The Day of The Dead Cocktail Bus to the Sunday Best Balearic Beach Bar. All this, plus pop-up theatricals around the site, from hula hooping and flashmob takeovers, to circus troupes, marching bands, and so much more.

Eric Prydz vs CHVRCHES Collaboration ‘Tether’ Hits #1 on Beatport

•February 24, 2015 • Leave a Comment

Eric Prydz is back in a very familiar spot: The #1 spot on the Beatport Top 100. With almost every single Prydz/Pryda release charting all the way to the top, it’s no surprise to find ‘Tether‘ at such lofty heights. Following up the equally impressive Pryda 028 EP that also climbed to the #1 spot, there seems to be no stopping the Pryda onslaught of quality progressive house.

When Eric Prydz adapts an existing track it’s never something to be taken lightly, it’s a rare occurrence and something special. It’s no coincidence that two of his past efforts — ‘Proper Education’ & ‘Midnight City’ — were nominated for Grammys, and few can forget his epic take on Depeche Mode’s “Personal Jesus”.

‘Tether’ is an interesting step with regards to collaboration for Eric, and only goes to show listeners the mass overlap appeal of his production. It’s ascension to the Beatport throne only solidifies Eric’s collaboration directive for 2015.

Hardkiss To Perform Anniversary Celebration in SF at Public Works on Saturday May 30
Back in 90’s San Francisco; Scott, Gavin and Robbie Hardkiss helped pioneer the American EDM/Rave scene with their club nights, warehouse parties and groundbreaking record label. They forged a new direction for dance music with a string of vinyl releases culminating in the seminal compilation, Delusions Of Grandeur.
Delusions Of Grandeur made the Billboard Dance charts, went to #1 on the Rolling Stone Alternative Album chart and launched the international DJ/production careers of the Hardkiss brothers. This hard-to-find compilation will now celebrate its 20th Anniversary with an official release date of May 11th, 2015. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for fans to get their hands on all of the Hardkiss classics.
Watch Delusions emerge from the ashes (here):
Hardkiss are an original DJ band. For many of their fans, Delusions of Grandeur was the first time they encountered electronic dance music. The Rave scene was raging and Hardkiss DJs, Gavin, Robbie & Scott were hitting multiple cities every weekend, introducing a new generation to their psychedelic funk techno sound collages.  It was unclassified music. Before there were genres, there was Hardkiss.
Acclaimed British music journalist Kris Needs declared that “Hardkiss’ music defies musical barriers, time and space with off-the-teabags loved-out majesty and manages to suspend the listener in a bottomless pool of fragrant intoxicants and rabbit aphrodisiac heart rhythms.” Additionally, throughPledgeMusic, Hardkiss are offering all of the B-sides which were only featured on the original vinyl from ’90-‘99, plus their favorite remixes from that era (many of which have never been released before) including Scott Hardkiss’ fabled remix of Elton John’s “Rocket Man” and other bootlegs including Gavin Hardkiss’ edit of The Beatles’ “My Sweet Lord”. More than 50 songs are featured including the track (circa 1991) “Champagne Beat Boogie” which was featured in the movie “Groove”. There are also remixes of Mazzy Star, The Lords of Acid and The Sandals.
A year after the heartbreaking loss of “brother” Scott Hardkiss, Gavin and Robbie Hardkiss partnered with Scott’s wife Stephanie, to relaunch the Hardkiss Music label with the release of a new album last year: Hardkiss – 1991 which was described by Magnetic Magazine as “a throwback to that heady time as well as a timely loop into the future.” Reunited in the Bay Area four years ago, Gavin and Robbie produced this album that stands tall in the often repetitive world of electronic dance music. Named for the year the Hardkiss collective was formed, 1991 references the sounds and sentiments of their early rave days while exploring new musical directions.
